You and the Swine Flu

You and the Swine Flu

Queensland Health has commenced the Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 (Human Swine Flu) vaccination program across the state. Our practice has been allocated vaccines for this program.

The initial focus of the program was vaccinate groups who are most vulnerable to severe outcomes from the virus. These groups have been identified as:

  • Pregnant women
  • Indigenous people
  • Parents and guardians of infants up to six months
  • Children in special schools
  • People with underlying medical conditions which could include:
    • Heart disease,
    • Asthma and other Lung diseases,
    • Cancer,
    • Obesity (BMI > 35),
    • Diabetes,
    • Kidney and liver disease,
    • Neurological disease.
    • Healthcare workers

The current Queensland Health focus is that all individuals are encouraged to be vaccinated against the swine flu.

Panvax H1N1 vaccine has been approved by TGA for use in children over 6 months of age to less than 10 years of age.

Children in this age range require 2 doses at an interval of 4 weeks apart.

For more detailed information on Panvax for children please visit this weblink, Panvax H1N1 in children

Family, carers and friends of vulnerable people are also encouraged to be vaccinated. Anyone wishing to be vaccinated should speak with their General Practitioner or enquire with our practice staff.

At Doctorz on Bennetts only one dose of the vaccine is required for children over 10 years of age and adults. This is available with our Registered Nurse who will administer the injection.

Please make a booking through reception if you would like to be vaccinated.
There is a fee charged for this, and part of this is Medicare refundable.

Prior to your vaccination we would like you to complete an informative consent form that will enable Queensland Health to monitor the uptake of Panvax.

Some patients (see group at top of page) that are more at risk from the anticipated second wave of swine flu as occurred in all previous pandemic influenza outbreaks will be recalled by letter.
